How does it work?
The Basal Body Temperature Method works by allowing the woman to determine their fertile days and infertile days of the menstrual cycle. The woman will be able to avoid sexual intercourse during their fertile days. The woman's body temperature experiences a slight increase after ovulation about halfway through the menstrual cycle. The woman experiences an increase in temperature after ovulation because progesterone stops being produced in the ovaries. Using this rise in temperature the user can determine when ovulation has passed. Ovulation takes about 24 hours as it travels through the fallopian tube into the uterus. If the ovum which was released during ovulation, comes into contact with a sperm it will become fertilized and the zygote will start to develop. Using this knowledge of the menstrual cycle, a woman can tell when they can have unprotected sexual intercourse and not ending up having a baby. The user then must avoid sexual intercouse from the time that the ovum is in it's fertile stage.
